Cistercian monastery from the 12th and 13th centuries, founded by King Alfonso VIII and his wife in 1188 for Cistercian nuns.
Panteón Real (Royal Pantheon); buried in Gothic tombs are King Alfonso VIII and his wife Doña Leonor de Aquitania, King Enrique I, Queen Doña Berenguela, Prince Don Fernando de la Cerda and many other members of royalty from the Crown of Castilla.
Surrounded by defensive walls, it is a monastery with Romanesque and Gothic features.
