Look-out Points in Virgen de la Hoz Ravine, Ventosa

As travellers drive along the road that enters the Ravine of La Hoz, they soon realise that they are in one of the most emblematic landscapes on the Way of El Cid: vertical walls, sculpted in incredible shapes in the conglomerate and reddish sandstone, alternating with extensive forests of maritime pine and leafy riverine woodland around the water in the River Gallo.

At the foot of a gigantic mass of rock, the shrine and the hostelry seem to merge into the environment, offering one of the loveliest views imaginable. However, a surprise still awaits the travellers, as they are able to get a ‘vulture’s eye view’ of the whole area from the three look-out points at the top of the towers. As they climb up a winding path with steps carved in the rock, they will learn all about the geology of the area on the information panels, until they reach the look-out points. The reward when they view the panorama of the gorge compensates for the climb up the path, and invites them to enjoy the landscape at their leisure.

• Access by car: along a tarmac road to the Shrine of the Virgin of La Hoz, where there is a car park. To reach the look-out points it is necessary to walk up a steep path.
• Access for people with limited mobility: there are no infrastructures adapted for people with limited mobility.
• Legal protection: it is inside the Natural Park of the High Tagus, the Site of Community Importance ES24240016, the Special Protection Area ES0000092 and the Molina-High Tagus Geopark.
• Seasonality: it can be visited at any time of the year, although it is most beautiful with the contrasting colours between the vegetation and rock in autumn.
• Recommendations, what to see and do: as well as visiting the shrine and hostelry of the Virgin of La Hoz, it is worth going along the road in the bottom of the gorge, next to the River Gallo, as far as the proximities of Torete.
