Peñaranda de Duero (Burgos)
What you can see and do in Peñaranda de Duero
Peñaranda de Duero is a Historical-Artistic town. The streets and squares of this walled town evoke the Renaissance and the Baroque. Your visit might well start in the Main Square with its porticos; the location of the ex-collegiate of St Anne (16th-18th centuries) and the Palace of the Counts of Miranda or of Avellaneda, the family that built it in the 16th century. It is a good example of a Renaissance palace and contains one of the most valuable coffered ceilings in Castile and León.
We recommend a peaceful stroll around the streets of the town. Out of interest, you can visit one of the oldest chemist’s in Spain (apparently it already existed in the 18th century). Known as the Apothecary, it has a small museum about the history of pharmacopoeia with many curiosities.
Peñaranda is also on the Ribera del Duero Wine Route.
