It is the only triple Roman arch that still stands in the Iberian Peninsula, and it dates way back to the 1st century A.D. It follows the same architectural style as the Arch of Trajan and is decorated modestly although it is still quite impressive. It is the only example of a monumental Roman arch of triumph in Spain and is still in very good condition except for the decorative features which have been eroded by climatic conditions. This Roman arch was built in opus quadratum of various sizes alternating headers and stretchers. Several decorative elements were carved into these bricks and the whole ensemble is 13.20 metres long, 2.10 metres wide and 8.10 metres tall. Besides its commemorative meaning, it was the gateway to the city where carriages and animals would pass through.
