Historical-Artistic Centre of Sigüenza

Sigüenza, Guadalajara / ALC.
Ubicación:

Plaza Mayor, 4 Sigüenza

Sigüenza, a historical-artistic centre since 1965, offers many options for travellers. Its castle, now a National Parador Hotel, was built over an eighth-century Arab tower. At its feet, in the south-west of the town, is the Jewish quarter: the Iron Gate connected this district with the rest of the town.

The cathedral of Sigüenza, which was begun in the first quarter of the 12th century, shouldn’t be missed. Inside it, you can see the Nobleman of Sigüenza, the tomb of Martín Vázquez de Arce, a knight who died in 1486 during the Granada War, and the Sacristy of the Heads, with hundreds of faces carved by Alonso de Covarrubias, representing the multi-faceted medieval society. But those are only two of the surprises awaiting visitors who explore the attractive old centre of the town.
