Historical-Artistic Centre of El Burgo de Osma

Murallas de El Burgo de Osma, Soria / ALC

Burgo de Osma is a town full of monuments that was listed as a historical centre in 1993. To demonstrate its importance, in the 16th century it was the location of a university. This has resulted in the large number of mansions and religious buildings in the town. It is well worth strolling quietly through its streets and crossing its walls to reach the well-cared-for bank of the River Ucero. But first, travellers should stop in the lovely porticoed main square.

Among the many important constructions in the town, one of the most striking is undoubtedly the impressive bell-tower of the Cathedral of the Assumption. The cathedral possesses a manuscript beatus written by the priest Pedro and illustrated by Martino in 1086. It is regarded as one of the most valuable eleventh-century codices.
