Difficult section between Luzón and Maranchón
The hiking and MTB route from Luzón to Maranchón is difficult for cyclists. It is an ‘undomesticated’ 7km-section with ups-and downs, in which faint footpaths alternate with comfortable tracks. Leaving Luzón, MTB cyclists should follow a brief signposted section barely 400m long until they rejoin the Way of El Cid. The paths are not always firm and you will have to get off the bike and push it more than once. You will also have pay attention to the signposts because, although some of these sections have been repaired, in others the faint path can be missed. It’s a section for more experienced MTB cyclists, for those who hate riding on tarmac, like cycling on rough ground and are not put off by difficulties. In any case, we recommend avoiding this section when it’s raining or the ground is wet, or if you don’t carry tracks or guide map.
If you do not want to follow this route, we suggest taking the cycling tourism road route (12km). From Luzón, take the GU-947 road to Ciruelos del Pinar (5.8km) and then the GU-948 to Maranchón (6.1km). They are provincial roads with little traffic that are fun to cycle on.
Remember this when you’re on the MTB Route of the Borderlands.
