A late 12th century Almohad building, with part of the walls and the square tower remaining.
In the late 14th century the castle was in Christian hands and alterations were made to its structure, with the construction of an unusual tower and a perfect equilateral triangle base. The whole of the surrounding valley can be seen from the top.
Today it symbolises the town of Novelda and was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931, endowing it with the historical and artistic recognition it deserves.
