Segorbe’s medieval walls

Remains of the walls are visible at various points in the town, especially in street Argen Segorbe
Although there are remains that indicate that a wall enclosure was built before the 11th century, the wall remains that are visible today are mostly ruins belonging to the 14th-century old wall, which surrounded the town and was one kilometre long.
The poet of El Cantar de Mío Cid narrates that an army of 3,000 men camped in Segorbe, following the orders of the King of Valencia. He sent them to Alcocer, in Zaragoza, so as to recover the fortress of El Cid. It is very likely that such a large army camped on the outskirts of the town.
