The poet of El Cantar de Mío Cid relates that Álvar Fáñez together with Álvar Álvarez, Álvar Salvadórez, Galín García and two hundred other horsemen went down along Hita on their tenth day of exile, carrying out raids downstream the river Henares to look for food. Scholars work on the assumption that the action of the episode took place outside the town’s limits, for the attack launched by Álvar Fáñez consisted of raiding the region in search of cattle. However, no towns, as for example Hita, were taken.
